4 Ways to Manage Dry Skin

As temps start to drop, so do humidity levels and unfortunately that is bad news for our skin. We know that the human body is 60% water, but did you also know that our skin is also made up of over 60% water? When humidity levels drop, the water from our skin is pulled into the atmosphere leaving us with dry, flaky, and itchy skin. This is no doubt an issue we all suffer with, but luckily there are measures we can take to help our skin (and ourselves).
Avoid HOT showers and baths. Instead, opt for lukewarm showers and baths. And keep them short. I personally LOVE hot showers, especially when it’s cold out. They’re so comforting in the moment but learning about the negative effects they can have on our skin and health is enough to make me think twice. Bottom line: hot water strips the skin of its natural oils. Our skin is already struggling to maintain moisture, let’s not burden it more by stripping away the little it has left.
Apply moisturizers to damp skin. We suggest you moisturize immediately after showering or washing your face, before the air has time to suck the moisture out! We also recommend using an alcohol-free toner or hydrosol to dampen skin before applying your moisturizer. The toner will hydrate the skin and the moisturizer will ensure those benefits are locked in. We are in the process of developing a toner, but until then, did you know our Aloe Glow and our Dream Creams all contain a blend of hydrosols and oils? That’s why they’re so effective at hydrating the skin! When using our serums, we highly suggest applying some Aloe Glow beforehand to help the serum absorb fully.
Use a humidifier. Low humidity is to blame for the increase in dry skin, so it makes sense to do what we can to increase humidity in the air around us. The more moisture the air has, the less it has to pull moisture from your skin. I personally use my humidifier while I sleep. Not only does this help my skin, but also my sinuses. Humidifiers don’t have to be big, so don’t be shy to get one for your work place if you're able to.
Wash your face with a cream/oil-based cleanser. Traditional cleansers strip the skin of its naturally occurring oils, often causing excessive dryness and irritation. This becomes even more harmful during drier seasons when our skin is already struggling to hold onto moisture. Not to worry, Treat Yourself has your back. Our Dream Creams are gentle cream cleansers that leave skin feeling baby soft while effectively removing dirt and makeup.

These are just a few of the ways you can help your skin in the colder months, but don't forget to always drink plenty of water and eat nutritious food to support your skin from the inside out!
